Some people think that the key to success lies within their daily routines. Do you agree with this, and if so, what is your daily routine?
As an entrepreneur, I have a lot of freedom and flexibility in how I run my days, and while empowering, it can sometimes feel chaotic. I do not have strict routines throughout the day (beyond living by my calendar!), but I find having a strict morning and evening routine allows me frameworks for well-being and productivity. I try my best to be up no later than 6:45 and in the gym by 7 am. This means I need to be in bed by at least midnight! My team also has a daily morning standup meeting, which means we need to submit our daily goals on slack the evening before. This is a great hack as it allows me to be prepared for my and my team’s next day’s to-dos before the day even arrive!
Thinking back at your teenage years, did you have any entrepreneurial interests?
Yes! In partnership with Dartmouth’s Business School, Tuck, I started a food truck on campus called The Box. Shortly after graduation, I launched a real estate marketing company called Vivonne, which landed on the front page of the real estate section of the NYT. My parents and my partner are all entrepreneurs, so it’s very much a big part of my world!
Is there a specific time of day when you feel most productive?
Post workout in the AM – those next 3 hours are super productive!
Do you think there is one character trait/skill that is important to have in order to become a successful entrepreneur in today’s world?
Resilience. The ability to keep pushing through uncertainty. And adaptation is the ability to recognize what’s working and what’s not.
Has being a woman in the business world affected you positively or negatively, and how so?
While I have experienced workplace bias and witnessed my female colleagues experience the same, I have been fortunate to be surrounded by strong female and male mentors and supporters. Now with Skye, I feel fortunate to be in a position to support women via coaching on meaningful topics, including executive presence, battling bias, communication, imposter syndrome, work/life identity, motherhood, and work.
What is one major goal that you wish to achieve by 2030?
Oh WOW! That is far away. I’d like to make a positive impact on the world, big or small. Hopefully, Skye is doing that in small ways already.
Who is your biggest influence and why?
My mother. She is a brilliant entrepreneur and the most fun-loving mother. She is a role model in all aspects of how she lives her life -in her relationship with her father, in the way she has motivated and led teams, and in the way she raised my 3 siblings and me.
If you could pick one female entrepreneur, who would you say is your biggest inspiration?
Above!
What has been the most formative advice you have received and why?
Trust by verify.
If you have siblings, are they also entrepreneurs?
I have 3 siblings. My brother started a real estate development firm, so yes! My sister is also an avid and published poet, so you could say most certainly!
Do you think the drive to become an entrepreneur is born with or is learned?
I think it’s partly nature, and very much your environment.
